Suddenly my boring life has a voice

Me and my boring life.

Suddenly I realized my boring life is being written so others could be inspired.  While talking to a good friend about writing my blog I was telling her how discouraged I was.  Why would anyone to be interested in reading about by boring life?   That is when she said “You are one of the most interesting people I know.  Look at all you accomplished in the last 2 years, your life is not boring.  There are tonnes of people out there who would love to read about your life”.

Lisa and I became accountability buddies nearly two years ago in an online group.  Since then she has become one of my best friends and we chat regularly about our lives.  When we first met I talked about leaving my job of 20 plus years and going travelling in a van.  During the last 2 years I bought the van, had it refitted, retired from my job and started traveling full-time.  Yes accomplishing so much is something to be proud of and could inspire others.

Comparing myself to all the fabulous, slim, young women or couples who are living and travelling in their vans was not a good thing.  They were posting great videos and pictures (all with great lighting, of course) on instagram and TikTok.  I am not young, slim, “model” looking and mostly post on Facebook. To me this was a no win situation!  My friend had given me such great advice I decided my boring life is blogged for a reason.

My boring life is being written and has a voice

I had to just tell my stories and hope my writing voice would come through to my audience.  It is a process, I know if I do not write then I will never fulfil this “blog” dream I have and people will never hear about my adventures.  I will be driving from place to place; I won’t be climbing Mount Everest or probably even doing any major hikes but it will be my story.

I am 62 years old but people tell me I look a lot younger.  Good skin genes and the few extra pounds keep the wrinkles at bay!   I have okay looks but really do not want to video my life so the blog is my better option.

I had travelled for 6 weeks in 2015 across the USA in my SUV.  After that trip I had the travel bug.  I decided on my next trip I wanted to travel more “comfortably”.  Vanlife has become a big thing on YouTube and now TikTok which helped me to decide this would be my way of retiring a bit early.

I worked lots of overtime, saved and pursued the want ads until I found my van.  I got financing and figured I would be able to make the payments for the next 5 years or so and then use that money for van maintenance later on.

One of my big bucket list trips was to drive across Canada, which I had never done before.  Then I wanted to head south along the east coast of USA to Florida.  I have never been to Florida either.  Next I would head to New Mexico and Arizona and north back to western Canada.

Sensational Saskatchewan – To See & Explore is the beginning of my 7 month road trip.
